A celebrated instrumentalist

Žarko Živković (Novo Mesto, Slovenia) is a distinguished classical guitarist, professor, arranger, and composer whose multifaceted career has earned him recognition throughout Europe.

He pursued his formal education at the prestigious University of Music and Arts in Graz, where he studied  with the renowned guitarist Harald Pepl (David Liebman, Jack DeJohnette).

He also studied with Zagreb professor and jazz guitarist Damir Dičić. He perfected his art at the  Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, where he graduated under the guidance of Professor  Tomaž Rajterič.

Živković, a renowned instrumentalist, has performed extensively accros Europe, including appearances in Greece, Sweden, France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. He has collaborated with esteemed musical institutions such as the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, and has frequently contributed to national broadcasts and recordings for RTV Slovenia.

Živković has been a featured artist at numerous international and domestic music festivals, and is a proud and active member of the Slovenian Composers’ Association (DSS).

Žarko Živković is an exceptional artist. This is proven by his annual author’s concerts, where only his new works are premiered, which is unique on the Slovenian concert scene. He is not only the author but also the co-organiser of the event, which further confirms the author’s self-confidence and belief in his creativity. His compositions are demanding for performers, both technically and expressively, but this is only a challenge for the musicians, which they successfully face, as is also proven by today’s concert.

As both founder and member of several prominent ensembles, he has contributed significantly to the development of chamber and ensemble music in Slovenia.
In addition to his live performances, he is highly regarded as a studio musician, arranger, and composer.

His original works span a broad range of instrumental formats and exhibit not only a profound understanding of classical tradition but also a distinctive, modern sensibility.

His acclaimed CD Euterpe showcases this versatility with compositions for piano, French horn, brass quintet, and guitar.
Živković’s deep passion for composition is evident in every measure of his work.
